Dedicated Packages Clarified
When we speak of hosting web servers, there are three major categories - shared hosting servers, VPS (private virtual servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting servers accommodate numerous clients and thus the resources per hosting account are restricted, VPS packages offer more configuration freedom, but also affect other virtual web servers on the hardware node if used unwisely, and dedicated servers offer you the liberty to do everything you want without intervening with anyone else.
Why would you need a dedicated server?
4 GB DDR3 RAM
2x250 GB HDD Hard Drives
8 GB DDR3 RAM
256 GB SSD Hard Drive
Dedicated servers are usually much more expensive than shared servers or virtual web servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is rather simple. If your company has a large web site, or just has very specific web server setup requirements, the smartest option would be a dedicated server. For someone who is ready to invest in safety and reliability, the greater price is not an issue. You are granted full root access and can use 100% of the physical server's resources without anyone else using these resources and intervening with your web pages.
Most hosting companies, incl. us at HarryHost, offer several hardware configurations you can select from in consonance with your needs. The hardware configurations include different types of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM and disk drive sizes and different traffic allowances. You can choose a hosting Control Panel, which is a convenient graphical user interface if you wish to utilize the web server for hosting purposes only and prefer not to use an SSH client for all the modifications you will be making. We offer three sorts of web hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The hosting CP of your choice
If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our dedicated hosting web servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated server via SSH only. That, however, could be awkward, particularly if you want to give complete server root access to somebody else who has less technical proficiency than yourself. That is why having web hosting Control Panel software pre-activated is a fine idea. The Hepsia Control Panel user interface that we offer does not offer complete server root access and is mostly appropriate for someone who maintains many sites that demand a lot of system resources, but would like to manage the web portals, databases and e-mail aliases through an intuitive hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel Control Panels, on the other hand, give you root-level access and offer 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting plans instead of using the hosting server only for yourself, you should select one of these two.
Web server monitoring and backup procedures
Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your dedicated server, like an unresponsive Apache or a network downtime, it is desirable to have some sort of monitoring platform activated. Here at HarryHost the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated server too. Backups are also an additional option - the hosting solutions provider offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could pick a kind of RAID that would allow you to keep the very same data on two server hard disks as a precaution in case of a server hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given root access deletes something accidentally.
